Hajimemashite! My son and I decided to start learning Japanese in the summer of 2017. After weeding through many online tutors, I came across Goldie. Her background was extensive and – she’s local! After speaking with her further, I learned that she started Japanese at the same age as my son, and I immediately requested lessons. A native English-speaking teacher is exactly what I was looking for, as I correctly assumed that she would know the hurdles that we would come across.
My son and I started taking lessons together, however, since he is a sponge, we have recently split up our lessons because he can go at a quicker pace than I. Goldie has been fantastic – her lessons are tailored to us individually, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Less than a year in, my son has already mastered Hiragana, Katakana, and is beginning to learn Kanji. He is conjugating and structuring sentences. His favorite part of lessons is when Goldie teaches him about culture and geography. He daydreams about which part of Japan he wants to live and go to school in. It’s wonderful to see him so excited to learn!
My own experience has been great as well. I was skeptical about taking lessons, as I really only decided to do it to help my son along, and, with working full-time I didn’t think that I would get very far. Little did I know that I was going to enjoy it. Goldie is very patient, accommodating, and encouraging. She shares all of her materials and resources with me, which says a lot about her integrity. My lessons with her are very different than my son’s. I have also learned Hiragana and am very quickly catching up with Katakana. My focus is more on vocabulary, general cultural knowledge, and how to communicate if I were to visit Japan.
Goldie has been a fantastic sensei, and I’m so glad that we found her! We intend to continue our lessons with her for a long time to come. I’m happy to speak with anyone who wants to hear more about my experience – feel free to contact me through Goldie. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!
